Gardener Tips

Recommended to start indoors and transplant. Thin to healthiest seedlings. Will grow into a large bush in mild climates overwinter. Add mulch at base. Drought tolerant. Tender perennial.

Seeds should be planted indoors and kept in a dome with a heated mat for 4-8 weeks.

It is key that your new starts be hardened off.  This is a process that requires taking them outside during the day, for a period of time, before they are planted. This acclimates your seedlings to the outside world, meaning the elements like the wind and sun. We do it for several weeks to a month as this strengthens their stems and overall plant structure.

  • Start for a short period of time initially, then graduate to more time each day
  • One week minimum is recommended
  • Bring them inside in the early evening and overnight
  • Keep an eye on them and constantly water them. Make sure they have not blown over.

Mulch base of plant.

Harvesting Tips

Harvest ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) when the plant reaches maturity, typically 150–180 days after planting.

Signs the plant is ready to harvest:

  • Leaves begin to yellow and dry.

  • The plant starts to die back naturally.

  • Red-orange berries inside papery husks are fully mature.

  • Roots are well developed and thick.

How to harvest

  1. Loosen the soil around the plant with a garden fork or shovel.

  2. Carefully lift the entire plant from the soil, keeping the roots intact.

  3. Shake off excess soil and cut away the stems and leaves.

Preparing the roots

  • Wash roots gently to remove remaining soil.

  • Cut larger roots into 3–4 inch pieces for easier drying.

  • Allow roots to dry thoroughly in a warm, well-ventilated place out of direct sunlight.

Once fully dried, the roots can be stored whole or ground into powder for herbal preparations.

Remember to label your jars with the variety name and the harvest year.  Always store in a cool, dark and dry location.

Durable and Rugged
Color: Black
I've had it for a few weeks now. It was a replacement I bought after buying several vinyl type covers. This one is a good gauge of plastic and rubber. The rubber seems pretty strong and it protects the iPad well on the corners and back. The back is mostly covered except for the Apple logo in the center. In addition to protecting the corners and also protects the camera lens as the rubber after insulation is a little bit higher than the lens so when you put this down, it's not going to scratch the lens. It has a pen slot, which I like and plenty of room to grip the device if I'm carrying it from place a place or when I'm using it, I can grip the edge and not touch the screen. One of the things I would've liked included is a screen protector, but nothing covers the screen. I also miss the folio type cover because the screen will gather dust now. But, Apple screens are fairly durable so I'm not too worried about breaking it. It was easy to install. It came in as it came in a couple of pieces that you just pressed together. All the controls are obvious as they are under the rubber, but they look like keys. One more thing I might bring up is the charging port. It's easy to get to even though it's a little deep. On my iPad the touch sensor is on the on off button and it is a little harder to do than if I didn't have any case on it, but that is to be expected. It also has an easel that unfolds from the back if you want to sit it up, but I don't use it for watching anything since I have a real TV set. So far I like it and I'm glad I bought this as I don't think it's going to wear out as quickly from me handling it as the others did. The value was good as long as it lasts.
