Forage turnips are an excellent choice for food plots, providing a nutritious and attractive forage option for deer. These cool-season annual brassicas are known for their rapid growth, excellent weed suppression, and significant nutrient accumulation. Turnips are both cold-hardy and drought-tolerant, capable of being planted late, even as a second crop, and providing high-quality grazing late in the fall. Turnips planted in July will provide grazing from September to November. The most vigorous root growth occurs during periods of low temperature (40 to 60°F) in the fall, and the leaves maintain their nutritional quality even after repeated exposure to frost.

Benefits

  • Deer Attraction: Highly attractive to deer, providing lush and nutritious forage.
  • Cold-Hardy and Drought-Tolerant: Capable of thriving in challenging conditions, extending the growing season.
  • Rapid Growth: Quick germination and growth make turnips suitable for short growing windows.
  • Weed Suppression: Effective at suppressing weeds, maintaining clean food plots.
  • Nutrient Accumulation: Accumulates nutrients and breaks down quickly in the spring, improving soil health.
  • Grazing Value: Provides excellent grazing value late in the season, ensuring a consistent food source for deer.

Characteristics

  • Type: Cool season annual brassica.
  • C:N Ratio: 25:1, contributing to efficient nutrient cycling.
  • Soil Requirements: Grows best in moderately deep loam, fertile, and slightly acidic soil. Does not perform well in high clay, wet, or poorly drained soils.
  • Seed Count: 220,000 seeds per pound.

Planting Instructions

  • Seeding Rate: Seed at 5-8 lbs/acre when planted alone, and 2-4 lbs/acre when used in mixes.
  • Seeding Depth: Plant seeds at a depth of 1/4-1/2 inch in a well-prepared seedbed.
  • Planting Range: Late summer to early fall for optimal establishment.
  • Longevity: Annual.

Forage turnips from Elk Mound Seed are designed to attract deer while enhancing soil health. Their rapid growth, cold-hardiness, and nutrient accumulation capabilities make them a valuable addition to any food plot. These turnips provide a nutritious and reliable food source for deer, ensuring your food plot remains productive and attractive throughout the hunting season. Turnips can be seeded alone or with grasses, providing flexibility in your food plot planning.

Cute Omegaverse story
Format: Kindle
3.75 stars and 2 for spice. Adorable Omegaverse story about a wedding planner who has to go to a small town to plan a wedding for a movie star. While there, she meets her pack. This covers her struggles of not living there but trying to keep her relationship going with her 3 Alphas. It's a quick read and cute, so I recommend it for people who like light-hearted RH stories.

real good
Format: Kindle
This was a solid read for the ABO universe. The characters are great. The smut scenes were well written. And the town is so cute I want to go there. It didn’t have much character development it just felt like I was getting to the characters as they were getting to know each other.

So sweet
Format: Kindle
It’s so unexpectedly sweet that it sneaks up on you. Each character is so unique and charming. I love the openness and honesty among their pack. It really blows me away how wonderful this omegaverse trope plays out. I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Needs editing
Format: Kindle
Cute storyline and promising characters, but the lack of editing is painful to read. I would love to read an edited version.

A good read
Format: Kindle
A good read, just fluffy cuteness, no antagonism. I like all the characters. It could have used another round of editing however, glanfds being one error that cracked me up, and my personal pet peeve was that the author kept using the word fill instead of feel, which I promise you are not interchangeable haha, but it's definitely better than the majority of books I read on here mistake-wise.
